Website speed fixes

Make your website fast.

A slow website loses you customers before they've seen a thing. I find what's slowing yours down and fix it, aiming for a top score on Google's PageSpeed test.

Why speed matters

Most people find local businesses on their phone, often on a patchy signal, while comparing two or three options. If your site takes too long, they tap back and try the next one. You never hear about it.

Google notices too. Speed is part of how it decides which sites to show, so a slow site gets found less and loses more of the people who do find it.

What I usually fix

  • Huge images that were never compressed
  • Too many plugins, scripts and trackers
  • Fonts and files that stop the page showing until they've loaded
  • Slow or overloaded hosting
  • Layouts that jump about while the page loads

Plain English, in order

You'll get a clear list of what's wrong, in the order I'd fix it, with no jargon. Then you can decide whether I sort it, you sort it, or it's not worth the bother.

Not sure where your site stands? Send it over and I'll tell you its Google PageSpeed score and the three things I'd fix first. Free, and no hard sell.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer here? Send me a message and I'll get back to you.

Can you speed up a Wix or Squarespace site?

Partly. Those platforms limit what can be changed, so I'll tell you what's possible where you are now, and whether moving would make a bigger difference.

What score should I aim for?

Every site I build aims for 100 on Google's PageSpeed test. For an existing site, getting into the green (90 and above) is a realistic goal.

Will speeding it up change how my site looks?

Usually not. Most speed fixes happen behind the scenes. If something visible needs to change, I'll explain why before I touch it.

Ready for a website that earns its keep?

Tell me what you're trying to do and I'll tell you honestly how I'd approach it. If it's not a fit, I'll say so.
